For those of you that missed Friday's social, Amourae Riggs was presented as UVU Accounting club President-Elect. She was the only student to submit a "mini resume" to be included on the election ballot! After a very brief discussion, Kathy and I agreed that a formal election would be forgone. We felt that Amourae would do a wonderful job.

The following is the full text of the mini resume she submitted for the ballot. Perhaps it will help you get to know her at least a little bit.

I am a double major in Accounting and Business with an emphasis in Finance. I currently serve as Accounting Club Secretary, and I work as an Accounting Lab assistant. If elected, my seasoned experience as an Accounting Club officer and an employee of the Accounting Department will provide me with the expertise to conduct club affairs efficiently and execute new project undertakings with success.   I have an AS degree in Communications and the interpersonal skills for establishing contacts with local accounting firms on behalf of our club.  As president, I will endeavor to expand the career planning resources, networking connections, internship opportunities, and postgraduate job placement services available through our Accounting Department. I will also establish a forum online where students can find others in their classes with compatible schedules and sign up for study groups.  If president, I promise I’ll strive to enhance your education and help you achieve your academic goals, while providing fantastically fun activities all along the way. Thank you.

If you're having a hard time finding a sitter for your kids, please feel free to bring them. Prof. Henage e-mailed me this afternoon and says his house has been baby-proofed for his grandkids, so it won't be a big deal to bring the kiddos.

Invitations have been sent for the UVU Accounting Club Social. This Fall's Social will be held at the home of Dr. Rick Henage in Springville this Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

We will enjoy a yummy BBQ, fun games, and lots of socializing. If you haven't joined the Club yet, and you want to attend this Social, please e-mail us at uvuaccountingclub@gmail.com and indicate whether or not you will bring a guest (e.g., husband, wife, friend, roommate). We will reply with details about how to get to the Henage's home.

Those who would like to carpool to the Social, please meet in front of the Woodbury Business Building by 5:40 p.m.

The Club officers are now in place, except for the position of President-Elect. The illustrious Kathy Black is our Faculty Advisor, and those holding positions are as follows:

An election for the position of President-Elect will be held from Monday, October 6th through Thursday, October 9th. During this academic year, the President-Elect will function as a second Vice President. Students who want to be included on the ballot for this election, please e-mail a short paragraph (consider it a miniature resume!) about yourself to uvuaccountingclub@gmail.com no later than Friday night, October 3rd. If you are a faculty member, and you feel that one of your students would do a great job as the future President of the Club, please encourage her or him to get on the ballot!

The results of the election will be announced at the UVU Accounting Club Social held on Friday, October 10th. (Details about this sweet Social are forthcoming.) Good luck!

Links to several accounting career resources have been added to this blog. They include the Utah Association of CPAs (UACPA), the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). More will be added as we go.

Other resources such as links to articles from accounting, finance, and other news publications will be added as we go. Knowing what's going on in the accounting/finance/IT world and seeing how professionals and thought leaders are talking about the concepts we're learning in class will bring more value and relevance to our education!
